Headlands punctuate this beach which is close to Miami. That’s Miami, Australia.
Nobby Beach got its unusual name from 19th century timber getter Frederick Fowler who grazed his head bullock ‘Nobby’ on the headlands. Little Burleigh later became known as Nobby for those in the know.
In World War II, a large US military camp was established close to here.
During the 1960s, families flocked to Nobby Beach Chairlift which gave a quick trip up the ‘mountain’ – an entertainment complex Magic Mountain. Now, it has the same name but has been totally transformed into resort apartments. Swim at patrolled beaches or dine at the surf club.
Location: Central.
Orientation: Mermaid to the north and Miami to the south.
