Mudgeeraba – Very Marketable

Known for its farmer’s produce market on the second and fourth Saturday of the month, Mudgeeraba has a long connection with primary industries.

Translations of Aboriginal dialects suggest the pretty township of Mudgeeraba could mean “a place where someone told lies” or worse still – “a place of infant’s excrement”. Surely not – with such a picturesque location which has drawn timber, cattle and farming for more than a century.  In the 1930s, the former settlement of Austinville was established to resettle unemployed people from the Great Depression.

Today, Mudgeeraba is a pleasant community – the site of hot air ballooning and easy access to either Hinze Dam or nearby golf courses. Accommodation includes hotels, motels and guest houses.  Head to the July show or try horse riding.

The place is positively inspirational – the annual Somerset Celebration of Literature attracts leading Australian writers for workshops and public events.

Location: Central West.

Orientation: Nestled in the foothills of Springbrook. 15km to Surfers Paradise.
