Canungra

Other Gold Coast:

Historic township, the gateway to a beautiful environment.

Canungra thrived in the mid to late 1800's as one of the largest timber stands in Australia. After the logging stopped, the region became a premium beef cattle, dairy and natural tourism location.

This historic township still enjoys renown as a fertile and productive environment with its fair share of eateries, wineries, accommodation and shops.

Today Canungra is host to a population of 1000 people and it is the perfect place to experience country hospitality and an easy rural atmosphere. The township is also a meeting place for Hang gliders, Para gliders, Birdwatchers and Bushwalkers who visit the area regularly to take advantage of what the Canungra Valley has to offer.

The historic Canungra township serves as the gateway to Tamborine Mountain, Beechmont, World Heritage Lamington National Park and the Scenic Rim.

Be sure to explore Laheys Tramway Tunnel, a sandstone tunnel pierced in 1901 that remains as testimonial to the ingenuity of our early pioneers.
