Cabarita

Other Gold Coast:

Surf and turf

Cabarita in northern New South Wales is a delightful community with surfing coves and headlands, bikeways, coastal walkways and a lake reserve. Sea turtles have been recorded nesting around Cudgen Nature Reserve’s beach and koalas inhabit the forest around the lake and Round Mountain.

Picnic near the lake or seek shade under pandanus adjoining the beach. Take a walk to the headland to view dolphin or circling hawks. Whale watching is a local pastime as these majestic mammals migrate each winter up the Australian coastline.

Hundreds of competitors attend the greenback tailor fishing competition each year. Cafes, restaurants, motels and resorts offer a range of accommodation.

Take a drive through the shire to Chinderah to the north.

Use Cabarita as a base to view Tweed’s range of events – Tweed River Festival in November, Tweed Fireworks Challenge in May. It’s a quick trip to the border.

Location: South.

Orientation: South of Kingscliff, north of Byron Bay.
